This is a drawing I was commissioned to make for a little beer bar in San Francisco. The client sent me a photo of his dog with one eye closed. He wanted me to make it look like he is winking. I can’t. Everyone who sees it says he looks like he got poked in the eye. I am going to try to bring the jowls into some kind of smirk and maybe try to put a few creases on the other eye, but I’m not optimistic. I am not creative. I just know how to copy what I see. I dread tomorrow… It’s due by 1pm.

My client quit his job and the logo never had to be revised. That is the fate of most artistic efforts until you reach a point where people want anything you do…
